HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SYNTHETIC INSULATED JACKET
Synthetic insulation is designed to mimic the warmth of down while being more resilient to moisture.
It retains its insulating properties even when damp, ensuring reliable warmth and comfort in various conditions. To keep your jacket in top condition, follow these care steps:
1. Washing: Machine Wash: Most synthetic insulated jackets can be machine washed. Use a front-loading washing machine if possible, as top-loading machines with agitators can damage the fabric.
Gentle Cycle: Wash the jacket on a gentle cycle with cold water to prevent the insulation from clumping and the fabric from getting worn out.
Mild Detergent: Use a mild, non-detergent soap or a detergent specifically designed for synthetic insulation.
Avoid fabric softeners, as they can damage the jacket's water-repellent finish and reduce breathability.
2. Spot Cleaning: If the jacket only has a small stain, consider spot cleaning it with a damp cloth and mild soap instead of washing the entire jacket.
3. Drying: Air Dry or Tumble Dry on Low: After washing, air-dry your jacket by laying it flat or hanging it up.
If using a dryer, set it to the lowest heat setting or use no heat.
Adding a couple of clean tennis balls to the dryer can help fluff the insulation.
Avoid High Heat: Never use high heat, as this can damage both the fabric and the synthetic insulation.
4. Water Repellent Treatment: Over time, the jacket's durable water repellent (DWR) coating may wear off.
If you notice that water is no longer beading on the surface, you can restore the DWR coating using a spray-on or wash-in DWR treatment. Follow the product instructions carefully.
5. Storing: Loosely Store: Avoid compressing the jacket for long periods (such as storing it in a stuff sack), as this can reduce the effectiveness of the insulation.
Hang the jacket or store it loosely in a breathable bag.
Avoid Moisture: Make sure the jacket is completely dry before storing it to prevent mold and mildew growth.
6. Avoid: Bleach and Harsh Chemicals: Do not use bleach, dry cleaning, or harsh chemicals, as they can break down the fabric and insulation.
